January has finally come for Chris Hughton’s fatigued Albion squad. You could describe this month to be like B&Q (the superstore), Chris can pop in… buy some wallpaper and plaster over the gaping cracks left in our squad! Yes, a terrible analogy, but one that is partially if not completely true.
Anyway, I thought it would be a good idea to research and combine all the current rumours flying around into one article to save you time and effort deciphering the false from the true! Enjoy!
I think it will be appropriate to start off with the hilariously false rumour that has still managed to trick some fans.
The man who got 18 Premier League goals last season has been linked with a laughable 6.5 million pound move to us. If this happened, it would be the signing of the century. However do not believe these ‘Football League’ Twitter pages, all they do is pick a player, club, and price and claim that it is true.
Lets look at the more realistic ones.
The Ecuadorian striker has been linked with the Seagulls since August. He is definitely someone we have scouted as pictures have emerged of scout Paul Winstanley at Emelec’s games.
Bolaños stands at the relatively small height of 5″7′ (same height as Baldock). However despite his lack of physical presence he has managed an outstanding 44 goals in 75 appearances for Emelec. Another encouraging sign for unsure fans is that he is proven internationally, hitting the back of the net six times in twelve appearances. Brighton have reportedly bid 7.3 million for the talisman. Bolaños could be just what we need however there are some question marks whether he can handle the physicality of the Championship.
Since writing this article, Knockaert has signed for the club! Welcome Anthony!
The former Leicester winger has been heavily linked with a move to Brighton in the last 24 hours as Standard Liege confirmed they had allowed him to have talks with us. This means the French winger is most likely negotiating a deal with Hughton and Bloom right now! The reported fee is 2.25 million which is just under our record fee of 2.5 million for Mackail-Smith.
If the deal goes through, we will have captured an absolute attacking gem. He caused havoc in the Championship, scoring some wonderful goals with Leicester, and for a while kept Leicester star Riyad Mahrez out of their squad. Personally, I feel like this deal is the most likely to happen. Here is a video of what Knockaert can do: Anthony Knockaert best moments

The Dutch winger scored two brilliant goals and managed one nice assist at his brief loan with the Albion. I would happily take him back as he gives another decent attacking option and proved his worth with us. Expect a transfer fee of less than 1 million.
